Oct. 20 2008

Just a quick post.  Been really busy preparing for the Disciple Concert.  This show is going to be so awesome.  Check out our events page for info.  With all that going on I haven't really been riding, racing or training so much lately.  I'll start preparing soon for my 2009 racing campaign.  I was able to get out for a few hours yesterday for a pretty long ride. See the pics below.

The view from Randy's Deck.  This picture doesn't give justice but Kansas is so awesome and beautiful.

Looking down at the cyclo cross course off the deck.  Flat grass section off into the trees then off onto the motorcross track.

Garret changing flat #1.  Combined we had 4 flats on our ride yesterday.

Me with a Home run hit with a big stick and gravel road rock.  You have to find things to do when your waiting all day on your friends to change their flats.

Quick update and race report from Rapture in Misery.  Last weekend Team High Gear was out in full force in Blue Springs MO for the annual 6/12 hour race.  Myself, Stephanie and Garret Seacat competed in the 12 Hour Co-ed Team Event and placed 1st.  Lelan Dains, Mike Wise, and Dustin Burgardt placed 2nd in the Three Man SuperFast Team Event after over coming some flats early on in the race. Jim Cummins did the Two Man 6 Hour Race with John Harter, placing 4th in that event. And last but not least was Team Randy Smith, Matt Day, and Keegan Crawford.  Some early misfortune hit the team when Matt Day had a really hard wreck on his first lap, which ended his day early with a trip to the ER and a broken ankle.  For you folks that don't race don't let this discourage you from racing or riding a bike.  Accidents happen.  That same day a young kid was playing in the back of a pick up at the race, fell out, and broke both his arms.  He wasn't even racing.  It was some what of an unusual day.  Matt Day is doing good.  He's dealing with some pain and just got a new plate and 9 screws installed in his ankle this past Friday.  Other then that he's looking forward to a speedy recovery and ready to get back on the bike.

Sorry I don't go into much detail these days but I need to spend more time fixing bikes, in the mad summer rush, then updating this site.  For one, fixing bikes pays better. And two, if I don't get the website updated it won't yell at me like disgruntled customers do when I don't get there bikes done.

Sorry about the delay in updating.  With summer in full force we are in peak season for bike sells and repair.  This means other stuff gets pushed to the side.  Updating the website for one.  So I just wanted to give a quick update on the High Gear happenings.  With the early season being a wash, meaning 50% of the races being rained out not much racing has been had until this weekend.  The Shawnee 3/6 hour race was in full swing.  Most of the High Gear team riders were out thrown down in the brutally hot conditions on Saturday.  Steph and I were unable to make the race because Steph's cousin was getting married.  A recap of the race can be read at Lelan's Blog.  Good job to Tim and Jim with a 4th place finish in the team 6 hour duo.  Followed up by Bobby and Lelan in 5th.  Mike and Garret for sticking it out even though mechanical problems forced them a little behind.  And Randy in the 3 hour solo class.

Congratulations all.

Also wanted to put an advanced word out that High Gear is going to be sponsoring a Rock Concert that is to take place on Saturday, November 8th at the historical Granada Theater in downtown Emporia.  Yeah I know it's a ways off but tickets will be going on sale within the next month.  Details are being ironed out but I know there is going to be a Trek Bike, a Skateboard, along with some other stuff to be given away at the Concert.  It is an all ages show.  Below are the bands that we plan on having.  Click on the picture to visit each artist website.  Keep checking back or call us if you have questions.  This Concert is going to be awesome.
